Voice of Care Foundation was founded in April 2017 by Oluwarayi .B. Oluwarami, known as Rami, during her undergraduate studies at the University of Ilorin. Amidst her academic pursuits, Rami experienced a profound sense of restlessness and a burden that led her on a spiritual quest for peace. As a devout Christian, she turned to her faith for guidance, seeking God’s direction on how to address the deep-seated issues she observed in the world around her. Her spiritual journey led her to the Biblical verse Ecclesiastes 4:1, which illuminated for her the divine instruction to be a voice for the oppressed and marginalized, including the fatherless, widows, orphans, and those suffering from injustice.
Rami’s newfound mission was clear, but her resources were limited. Despite this, she did not let her lack of material means deter her. Instead, she reached out to her close friends and fellow believers from the Christian community at the University of Ilorin. Together, they formed a student movement called Voice for the Lowly (VFL). This group of passionate volunteers came together to support her vision, contributing their time, energy, and resources to initiate the first outreach program. Their efforts began in a rural community in Awe, Ilorin, Kwara State, where they distributed clothes, foodstuffs, and other necessities, while also raising awareness about critical issues such as female genital mutilation and advocating for women’s rights.
The inaugural outreach was a success, positively impacting the lives of children, women, and men in the village. The campaign not only provided immediate relief but also educated the community on harmful traditions and encouraged women to assert their rights for long-term happiness and well-being. The small team of about ten dedicated volunteers worked alongside Rami, driven by a shared commitment to make a difference. This foundational effort marked the beginning of a journey that would expand to reach other rural communities across Nigeria, focusing on alleviating hardship through financial campaigns for struggling students, hospitalized individuals, and orphanages.
However, the road was not without challenges. The organization faced significant setbacks, including difficulties with government registration, which necessitated a rebranding in 2023. With a renewed vision and a new name— Voice of Care Foundation (VCF) undertook a comprehensive restructuring to enhance its visibility and funding opportunities. This strategic shift was aimed at building a stronger foundation for future growth and impact, ensuring that VCF could continue to support those in need with increased effectiveness.
Today, Voice of Care Foundation stands as a testament to the power of faith-driven dedication and community support. Under the leadership of committed volunteers who have grown alongside the organization, VCF has continued to expand its reach and deepen its impact. The foundation’s journey from a small student initiative to a significant force for change reflects the resilience and vision of its founder and the ongoing commitment of its supporters. As VCF moves forward, it remains devoted to its mission of serving the marginalized and uplifting communities across Nigeria, striving to make a lasting difference in the lives of those it serves. VCF was founded on a religious architecture but is not religion bias and has served Christians and not Christians across Nigeria.
